A number of people have asked me what I am doing to prepare for the COVID-19 pandemic.
The main shortages I've identified and some work arounds include:
- Masks - If you can get N95 masks, great. If not, don't sweat it. Here are some thoughts on using KN95 masks.
- Shopping strategies - My local grocery store begins restocking shelves about an hour before closing. If you arrive then, you will often find items not on the shelves sitting in boxes on the floor in front of the shelves where they usually are displayed.
- Food: stick to staples - non canned, non frozen. Pasta, instant mashed potatoes, oatmeal, dried beans, instant milk, protein powder, fiber supplements, multi-vitamins. The Ready Citizen Manual provides a lot of guidance on this.
- Bottled water: skip it. I've yet to receive a report anywhere indicating municipal water supplies have been impacted. Know how to purify water in the unlikely chance that happens. The Ready Citizen Manual tells you how.
